diy Will You Be My Bridesmaid Cards

“Asking your closest girlfriends to be part of your special day should be exciting… and what better way to ask than through mixed media?!?” Julia’s Poppies Design

I love details, pretty packages and thoughtful notes. I love to gather magazine cuttings, fabric swatches, and colour charts for mood boards.

1

This tutorial is for inspiration alone… their are no rules. Just surround yourself with your favourite magazines (not just wedding ones), photos of your friends, fabric and ribbon scraps, washi tape, paints, a Sharpie perhaps, and a bit of sparkle and confetti, and run with your imagination!

2

The calligraphed and illustrated templates for Maid of Honor, Matron of Honor, Bridesmaid, and Flower Girl come in four colour palette options with purchase of their white metallic pocket closures. You just have to print out the desired quantity at home and start crafting! You can purchase a set from Julia’s Poppies on Etsy.

Antique Lace Crown Headbands for Princess Flowergirls

You can find these little vintage lace crowns on Etsy. They are hand-painted in white, champagne gold, or silver… but you could paint them yourself in your favourite shade of neon pink if you like, then attach them to headbands and place them on the darling little heads of your flowergirls!

diy Paper Polyhedra Ornaments

Geometric paper ornament templates. Use them like scatter crystals, but bigger, better, bolder, and so hot right now! You could use them to cut your own from bits of left over scrapbook paper.

Handmade Wedding: Superhero Boutonnieres, Origami, Scrabble & Bright Green

Mimi and Ben’s adorable handmade wedding took place at their church in Charlotte, North Carolina, followed by a reception in the church’s gym. A gym may seem like an unlikely venue choice, but this one in particular provided the perfect blank canvas for Mimi to add heaps of colour and handmade details  including origami birds, etched bottles, ribbon backdrops and Scrabble letters, all set off by the venues’s bright orange floor! Love that they drew inspiration from their love for Scrabble- apparently, when Mimi was studying abroad, they passed the time playing Skype Scrabble- sweet!

TOMS! And in a perfect shade of green! Adore the beaded anklets too. If you look closely, you’ll see that their names are spelt out on the beads! It makes me very sad when brides take off sentimental anklets and friendship bracelets for their wedding… they’re a part of you… be you!

Green is Mimi’s favourite colour, clearly! Even her engagement ring has a green stone (Peridot)!

67

Mimi asked the boys who their favorite superhero was, ordered figurines and made them into boutonnieres- so much fun! This guy said his favorite superhero was Jesus!

Initials in the Bridal bouquet ♥ Mimi also made mismatched bouquets for each of her bridesmaids to suit their own styles and personalities! (See my post on how to make your own heirloom bouquet)!

They used strips of fabric to create a colourful backdrop for their ceremony. Or… you could use streamers… effective… affordable.

“Make the wedding about the two of you. Don’t let anybody else take over that you do not want. Never be afraid to ask for help. I had some amazing girls around me who were so supportive, encouraging, & helped me complete a lot of my DIY wedding projects. I would have been a stressed-out mess without them!”
